Marci Warhaft-Nadler rants about an image-obsessed society.
Our lives are massively bombarded by images. Should we celebrate that fact or dread its consequences? As a creator of images, Michael Salu is interested in communication they provoke. Can communication through images and our advancement with digital experiences actually help us reach a greater level of empathy for each other? Or should we fear the reverse? The image is ubiquitous in today's postmodern society. The image reflects and constructs our social reality. The image is political.
I'm finding it hard to understand why such importance is put upon body image/appearance in today's society when we know how destructive it is to peoples' sense of self. It's so difficult to face your own body image issues during recovery when it is so embedded in our culture to be negative about our bodies.
